Whoever you want to be

The lesson I learned…


You are who you are.

You cannot change who you are.

If you are an anxious person, you will always be anxious.

If you are a negative person, you will always be negative.

If you expect the worst, you will always expect the worst.

If you are afraid, you will always be afraid.

If you are judgmental, you will always be judgmental.

If you fear change, you will always fear change.

I once believed there was no escaping the things about me that I didn’t like.


After all, there are reasons you are who you are.

Circumstances and experiences molded you to be the person you are today.

That is true.


Circumstances and experiences have brought you to where you are today.


You are who you are because of what you’ve been through.


It has influenced the way you respond to all the things that happen to you.


Overcoming the lesson…


I learned that you control your thoughts.


Which means you can change your thoughts.


Which means you have the power to be who you want to be.


You can worry less.

You can be a positive person.

You can be optimistic.

You can be resilient in the face of fear.

You can stop judging.

You can embrace change and maybe even thrive on it.


You have the power.


You are in control.


You are responsible for being the person you want to be.


But maybe you are comfortable.

Maybe change makes you uncomfortable.


Maybe it doesn't seem possible.

Fair enough.


After all, it’s not easy to change your thoughts.


It's not easy to change your behavior.


If it were, then everyone would be happy with every aspect of themselves.

No one would ever wish they were different in some way.

That they could change something about themselves.

You will know it is time to change when the discomfort of staying the same outweighs the discomfort of changing.


You will decide that you no longer want to accept those aspects that you don’t like.


You will determine what needs to be done.


You will do it.


You will change.

You will become the person you want to be.

When you look back,

you will be proud of your journey.

You will be grateful you decided to change.

You may wonder why you stayed the same for so long.

You will feel powerful.

You will respect yourself.

You will love yourself.

You will be confident in who you are.

You will be comfortable, in the best way.

You will feel unstoppable.

After all, you can be whoever you want to be.
