Sanctuary Dispatch | Reflections from the Wild Path
The Soft Rebellion Series
I had a dream. I was being taken to prison.
Not for something serious—something minor, almost laughable in its insignificance. But I was told the sentence was death.
There was no trial. No court date. No opportunity to plead my case.
Just a quiet, horrifying certainty: this was happening.
My family and friends were allowed to visit me before I was taken in. I cried like I’ve never cried before. It wasn’t just sadness—it was confusion, helplessness, devastation. There was no justice. No explanation. No one to stop it.
And then I woke up.
Safe. In my bed. In my home. Free.
But I couldn’t breathe.
Because the dream wasn’t just a dream. It was a mirror.
Just the day before, I watched the video of a woman in Worcester, Massachusetts, being torn from her daughter by ICE.
Law enforcement surrounded her. There was screaming - desperate, chaotic, heartbreaking screaming.
She didn’t get to wake up feeling safe or free.
The ache in my chest that morning was more than the remnants of a bad dream. It was the weight of that reality.
It was the knowing that while I woke up to safety, someone else woke up inside a nightmare they can’t escape.
And so I ask:
What is our responsibility when we are the ones who get to wake up free? How do we live with that kind of truth?
This isn’t just about immigration. It’s about justice. It’s about dignity. It’s about how we, as human beings, respond when systems meant to protect instead destroy.
Amid the horror, there was a flicker of hope—women stepping in, trying to help, refusing to look away.
Let this be a moment of reckoning. Let it be a call to stay awake—not just spiritually, but socially. To bear witness. To let the heartbreak land. To resist the numbness that tells us it’s not ours to carry.
Because no one should be physically torn from the arms of their loved ones because of where they were born.
Not in dreams. And not in waking life.
If your heart is stirred, here’s where to begin:
Support organizations doing the work:
RAICES – providing legal aid and advocacy for immigrant families.
MIRA Coalition – supporting immigrants and refugees in Massachusetts.
Immigrant Justice Network – pushing for systemic policy change.
If you witness an ICE detainment:
Stay calm and record if safe.
Do not physically intervene—but bear witness.
Let the individual know they have the right to remain silent and request an attorney.
Reach out to local rapid response networks.
Your presence matters.
Stay awake. Stay human. Stay connected. Not out of guilt — but out of love. Not because it’s easy — but because it’s right.

Tuesday Reflections from the Wild Path | A soft rebellion for the soul
This is where spirit meets resistance. Each Tuesday, I share a dispatch from the edge of the old world—where systems are crumbling and something truer is rising. These pieces weave together politics, power, and personal truth from a deeply human, heart-centered lens. They are an offering of clarity in chaos. A reclamation of voice. A reminder that awakening is both inner and outer work.
